Congress Wasting Time on Obamacare

President Trump took office nearly six months ago with a Republican House and Senate and pledged, among other things, to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.  With nothing accomplished thus far, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is attempting to shove another bad health care plan down our throats.  Fortunately, it is likely to fall short of the votes needed to pass as a few sensible Republicans are refusing to vote in favor of an ill-conceived replacement.

Sadly, Congress can only handle two or three major pieces of legislation in a given year.  They're hardly ever in session during the year and are scheduled to take the entire month of August off.  McConnell is threatening to limit the August recess, but we all know that won't happen.  Nothing stands in the way of an elitist, wealthy politician and their vacation.  As it stands now, their healthcare plan is a joke.  It doesn't even repeal Obamacare and it cuts Medicaid benefits.  If doesn't really fix anything in the healthcare system.

It's very easy to say 'Repeal and Replace Obamacare'.  However, now that they're governing, Republicans are figuring out that there is no good solution for healthcare in America.  The system is a complete mess and has been for a long time and definitely before Obamacare came around.  Even before President Obama took office, healthcare premiums were skyrocketing on an annual basis.  ACA was an attempt to help correct some of the problems of the system by getting millions of more people insured.

The days in the calendar keep ticking off and nothing gets done.  We're all waiting on tax reform, de-regulation, and reform of the entitlement programs that are slowly bankrupting our country.  Unfortunately, every day in Washington seems to be politicians responding to another Trump scandal, which has been the case since day one.  Perhaps they will focus on doing their job.  Not likely, I know, but one can hope.
